Activity
Metconazole can be applied to foliage or to seed. It has preventative and curative activity and is systemic. The product has residual activity lasting up to six weeks following foliar application. The activity of metconazole against foliar diseases can be increased by the addition of alcohol ethoxylate adjuvants. This may allow the application rate to be reduced. The company recommends its use in association with non-triazole fungicides to control mildew.

The soluble concentrate (SC) formulation ensures rapid penetration into the plant and is reported to be rainfast in 15 minutes.

In field trials, foliar applications of metconazole gave similar levels of disease control to other triazole fungicides at lower use rates. When used as a seed treatment, it gave better or similar control at lower rates.

Oral:Acute oral LD50 for rats 661 mg/ kg. Percutaneous:Acute percutaneous LD50 for rats >2000 mg/kg. Not irritant to skin; slight irritant to eyes (rabbits). Not a skin sensitiser. Inhalation: LC50 (4 h) for rats >5.6 mg/l. Phytotoxicity:Exhibits some plant growth regulant activity such as thickening of leaves, stunting and darkening of leaf colour. ADI:0.036 mg/ kg.
Environmental Profile

HAZARDS: Fish: LC50 (96 h) 2.2-4.0 mg/l (rainbow trout), 3.9 mg/l (fathead minnow), 3.99 mg/l (carp). Bird: Acute oral LD50 790 mg/kg (bobwhite quail); Acute dietary LC50 >5200 mg/kg (mallard duck). Bee: Oral LD50 (24 h) 97 μg/bee WATER SOLUBILITY: 15 mg/l at 20°C
Fate in soil:

Metconazole is primarily degraded microbially in soil and has a half-life of 17 weeks. It is strongly adsorbed by soil particles and is, therefore, immobile.
