Environmental fate:
Soil:In soil, microbial degradation leads to the formation of 2,4-D, which subsequently undergoes further degradation. Half-life in soil <7 d (Weed Res., 1978, 18, 275).Plant:In susceptible plants, rapidly undergoesb-oxidation to 2,4-D, which is then degraded to 2,4-dichlorophenol, followed by ring hydroxylation and ring opening. In tolerant plants, b-oxidation to 2,4-D is very slow. -
