The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center is a not-for-profit research institute with a mission to improve the human condition through plant science. It focuses on scientific research at the nexus of food, energy and the environment to improve the productivity and sustainability of agriculture. Core technologies: bioinformatics, integrated microscopy, phenotyping, plant growth, proteomics & mass spectrometry, tissue culture & transformation.

Founded in 1998 by William Henry Danforth, a cardiologist, the Center was established through a $60 million gift from the Danforth Foundation, a $50 million gift from the Monsanto Fund, the donation of 40 acres of land from Monsanto, and $25 million in tax credits from the State of Missouri.
