Germicopa

Germicopa is a French company specialising in the creation of potato varieties for the fresh market and industrial processing (fries, chips and starch). Its varietal creation was born of a collaboration, in 1947, between the Clause selection company and Breton cooperatives. In 2014, Germicopa joined the Florimond Desprez group. The entry into this family group, a specialist in varietal creation, offers Germicopa new perspectives. The company has since benefited from its support in its research work and for its international development.
Many iconic varieties, such as Charlotte, Chérie and Amandine, are from the Germicopa breeding program. Germicopa also produces seed potatoes and markets them in 70 countries around the world.
Germicopa’s research strategy is designed to provide fast and competitive responses to customer requests, taking into account their respective agro-ecological environments. For this purpose, Germicopa’s research teams rely on a diversified genetic resource. More than 1,000 genotypes, including many related species, can be combined by our researchers to feed into our breeding program.
Germicopa works in collaboration with 180 multiplier farmers based in territories recognised for their high sanitary quality, in Brittany and in the North of France. Their experience and Germicopa’s expertise make it possible to make the most of nearly 3,000 hectares of seed potatoes put into production each year.
