Physical PropertiesMolecular weight:206.0; Physical form:Colourless crystals. Melting point:200-201 °C; Vapour pressure:930 mPa (100 °C); Solubility:In water 700 mg/l (25 °C). In dimethylformamide 1206, acetone, methanol 223, ethanol 173, isopropanol 113, diethyl ether 70, chloroform 0.9, benzene 0.2 (all in g/kg, room temperature). Insoluble in carbon tetrachloride.; Stability:Thermally stable up to the boiling point. Stable to oxidising agents, acids and alkalis. Decomposed by sodium hypochlorite solutions. Sensitive to light.

Animals:In rats, the major metabolites were 3-amino-5-chlorobenzoic acid, 3-aminobenzoic acid, 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid, 3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid and 2,5-dichloroaniline.Soil:Undergoes microbial degradation in soil. Duration of activity is c. 6-8 w.Plant:In plants, chloramben is converted to a highly stable N-glucoside, which retards further degradation. -
