In methanol, chloroform, diethyl ether >10, ethyl acetate >5, hexane <0.5 (all in g/l).; Stability:Decomposes at 200-219 °C. Stable to hydrolysis at pH 3-9. Decomposed by u.v. irradiation, DT50 23 h in water.
Toxicology
Oral:Acute oral LD50 for rats and mice >10 000, dogs >500, cats >250 mg/ kg. Percutaneous:Acute percutaneous LD50 for rabbits >5000 mg/kg. Non-irritating to skin; moderate eye irritant (rabbits). Inhalation: LC50 (4 h) for rats >4.12 mg/l air. Phytotoxicity:Cotton is the only crop which has been found to be tolerant.

Ecotoxicology: 
Bees: LD50 (oral) >362.6 μg/bee.Birds:Acute oral LD50 for bobwhite quail >2000 mg/kg. Dietary LC50 (8 d) for bobwhite quail and mallard ducks >5000 mg/ kg diet.Daphnia: LC50 (48 h) 6.3 ppm.Fish: LC50 (96 h) for rainbow trout 11.7, bluegill sunfish 14.3 mg/l.Worms: LC50 (14 d) for earthworms >102.6 ppm.Other aquatic spp.: EC50 (96 h) for pink shrimp 4.6, blue crab 34.0 ppm; (48 h) for oyster embryos 16.8 ppm. 

Environmental fate: 
Soil:Microbial degradation is the principal cause of disappearance from soil. In a silt loam, DT50 >343 d ( pH 7.3, 2.6% o.m.). Kd 3-16, Koc 350 Plant:Fluridone is not metabolised appreciably in terrestrial plants; see D. F. Berard et al., Weed Sci., 26, 252 (1978).
