Activity
Herbicide. This product ultimately inhibits cell division within the target weed. This occurs as a result of inhibition of the elongation step in the synthesis of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFAs), which are essential membrane and cell wall components.

Optimum activity is obtained with good soil moisture conditions where uptake by the roots is favoured. If the soil is dry, improved activity is noted if application is followed by a light cultivation. In soybeans, applications are limited to pre-emergence (crop) timings. Pre- and early post-emergence applications (crop) can be made to maize.

The residual activity of pethoxamid varies from 8-10 weeks depending on the dose and the soil moisture level.

The spectrum of activity of pethoxamid against dicotyledonous weeds and the application window can be enlarged by combinations with other herbicides such as atrazine, pendimethalin or terbuthylazine.
