Activity

Fungicide.
The fungicide inhibits spore germination and controls powdery mildew on cereals and grapevines. DuPont note that proquinazid’s primary mode of action is to inhibit the germination of fungal spores by preventing the formation of appressoria that are necessary for infection of host plants. A possible secondary mode of action of stimulating the expression of host defence genes is currently under investigation.

Proquinazid has limited systemic activity and protects new growth. Treatment to cereals should be made at the first sign of infection and residual control for four to six weeks may be expected. Vapour action also may also contribute to activity. If a second application is made then proquinazid should be mixed with a product having an alternative mode of action.

On vines, application is recommended between the time when shoots are 20-25 cm long and flowering. Protection may be expected for 21 days. The pre-harvest interval is 28 days.
