Activity
Sintofen is absorbed through the leaves and translocated to the site of gametogenesis, where it prevents the formation of viable pollen. The optimum timing for application is when the ears are between 1.0 and 2.0 cm long. Not all varieties of wheat are equally suited to treatment with a hybidizing agent, giving rise to variation in hybrid seed produced.

In field trials, wheat treated with sintofen gave up to 100% male sterility in treated lines. Hybrid seed yields of up to 80% were obtained.
