In ethanol 530, isopropanol 540, acetone 800, propylene glycol 450 (all in g/l, 25 °C). Soluble in methanol, isopropyl ether, and petroleum ether. Sparingly soluble in toluene.; Stability:Slowly oxidised in air. Acidic in reaction, and forms salts with aqueous alkalis. Photolysis in acidic solution in the absence of oxygen results in hydrolysis of one chlorine atom, to give the corresponding phenol.
