The commencement of business activities by Spiess-Urania Chemicals GmbH can be traced back to the year 1815, when the chemical factory J.E. Devrient started to produce ‘Schweinfurter Grün’ as a copper compound in Hamburg.   Today, Spiess-Urania Chemicals GmbH produces a range of copper chemicals for different purposes like antifouling, feed additive, plant protection or wood preservation. Spiess-Urania’s copper products are sold in more than 60 countries of the world. The element copper is thereby one of three segments onto which the business of Spiess-Urania Chemicals GmbH is founded.  The second segment to Spiess-Urania’s business is a broad portfolio of plant protection products being sold in the domestic market Germany as well as in Poland, Hungary and in the Czech Republic through its subsidiaries. As a distributor, Spiess-Urania Chemicals GmbH sells fungicides, insecticides, herbicides etc. of more than 20 producers of plant protection products.  In addition to the business in copper chemicals and plant protection, the third segment in Spiess-Urania’s activities is the service of vegetation control on railroads to which Spiess-Urania - together with its subsidiary J. M. Lauff GmbH - is specialised for over 50 years.
