Chemical Industries (Colombo) Limited (initially a part of Imperial Chemical Industries-UK), was incorporated in 1964 as a supplier of high-quality chemical products for the local market. It is now known as CIC Holdings PLC, one of Sri Lanka’s leading conglomerates with ventures in businesses ranging from agriculture to chemicals and from medicine to household products. Guided by strong ethics and a culture of growth, CIC has become a household name with which every Sri Lankan is familiar.  CIC Agrochemicals Division is the leading supplier of crop protection solutions in Sri Lanka. This business has a wide range of crop protection products for the management of weeds, pests and diseases in crops of economic importance.  CIC Pohora, the fertiliser unit of CIC Holdings was formed in January 1993 with the acquisition of Ceylon Tobacco Company’s fertiliser business. The rapid growth of sales since its inception led to the expansion of the company’s blending facilities from a single plant in Kurunegala to two more at Peliyagoda and Maho. The blending facility in Maho was terminated in 2007 to make way for a high tech rice processing plant. CIC Pohora owns and maintains the only computer-operated fertiliser blending plants in Sri Lanka. The facilities are also equipped with laboratories that ensure the uniformity and accuracy of the composition of all fertiliser blends.  CIC is the only company in Sri Lanka that manages the entire supply chain from seed to shelf connecting rural farmers to urban consumers and facilitating the socio economic progress of rural communities with the guarantee of CIC quality.
