Activity
Herbicide.
Aminopyralid is a systemic (phloem and xylem mobile) auxin mimic with foliar and soil residual activity. It is selective to a range of arable crop, grass and perennial species. In cereals it may be applied between the 3-leaf stage and the start of stem extension (jointing).
In temperate climates, the persistence of aminopyralid in soil may mean damage to several broadleaved crops if treated fields are rotated to these crops in the same year of application. These crops include cotton, soybeans, alfalfa, peas, lentils and other legumes.
Field trials on several rangeland and pasture sites in the USA showed that aminopyralid at 53 g/ha gave excellent control of species of biennial thistle, with good selectivity to grasses. Control was achieved whether aminopyralid as applied to thistles at the rosette stage or after bolting (reported at NCWS conference, 2005).

Fate in soil:
Aminopyralid had a mean half-life of 34.5 days over eight sites in N. America and 25 days for four sites in Europe. Laboratory studies indicated some soil mobility with a Koc of 10.8 L/kg, but movement was limited in field studies. No significant metabolites have been noted.

Fate in water:
The main route of degradation in water is by photolysis. This happens rapidly in surface water (half life 0.6 days). Rapid photolysis and limited soil movement mean that the potential for groundwater contamination is low.

Fate in air:
Potential for volatisation is extremely low.

Hazard Class:O (Obsolete as pesticide, not classified)
